Texas Americana Band Makes Surprising Appearance in ‘Pitch Perfect 3'

Austin Americana quintet Whiskey Shivers landed a role in the new movie Pitch Perfect 3.

The film franchise follows a group of college a cappella singers called the Barden Bellas. A surprise success in 2012, the first movie eventually spawned two sequels. This third installment finds the Bellas joining a USO tour in order to perform together one last time.

But they aren't the only ones performing. And that's where Whiskey Shivers comes in. The band is tight-lipped on what role the play in particular, but it's definitely both an acting and performing role.

Check out the trailer now, and see the band around the 1:13 mark.

Though strange to think at first, Whiskey Shivers are known for fusing bluegrass and punk music, much like main character Beca Mitchell (played by Anna Kendrick) is known for making musical mashups for the singing group.

In the film, the group performs a mash-up of "Wake Me Up" by Aviici and "Zombie" by The Cranberries. The filming wrapped earlier this year in Atlanta, Ga.

In addition to the movie, Whiskey Shivers spent much of early 2017 preparing for the release of their new album Some Part Of Something. That record came out on July 21.

Whiskey Shivers continues their tour across the country in support of the record, with more than 20 dates lined up until the end of November.

Pitch Perfect 3 comes out Dec. 22. No word if the band plans on taking their newfound Hollywood fame to other film sets or not.
