Texas burger chain Whataburger has come out on top of a new tournament gauging the best burger chain in America.
Fast Company magazine pitted 32 regional and national burger chains against each other to find Americans’ true favorite. After eight chains from the East Coast, West Coast, South, and Midwest all battled it out, it came down to the final four: Five Guys, Culver’s, Whataburger and In N Out Burger. It took four days of voting to determine that Whataburger was indeed the best of the best, narrowly beating out Virginia-based burger joint Five Guys.
The news isn’t surprising to most Texans, who have enjoyed their classic for years. The first Whataburger was opened in 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas by entrepreneur Harmon Dobson. Now, there are over 700 restaurants across the southern United States. In 2001, the 77th Texas Legislature even designated Whataburger as an official “Texas Treasure.” The celebrated fast food chain now has even more to celebrate with their latest accolade.
So what do you think? Is Whataburger really the best out there, or did your personal fave get snubbed from the competition? You can check out the initial bracket and learn more about the results over at Fast Company.
