2016 marked the death and resurrection of the beloved country music drama Nashville. Now, fans can get one final glimpse of what’s to come in the show’s season five premiere before it airs next month.
Earlier this week, the network aired the first hour of the two-hour episode, which was filled with plenty of drama. I’ll keep the spoilers minor here (this is your final warning!), but fans breathed a sigh of relief when it was shown that Juliette actually did survive that plane crash. Still, the tragic event sends shockwaves across the community, hitting former musical rival Rayna Jaymes especially hard.
Watch all the emotional craziness in the full trailer below.
The first-hour preview showed a more nuanced version of the show with cinematography more reminiscent of film than a soap opera. It’s a subtle change, but one that helps make the series feel a little bit more believable.
But don’t think that the show has lost it’s lovably cheesy qualities. The push and pull of all the character’s relationships (especially Gunnar and Scarlett’s eternal on-again, off-again love affair) are what keep viewers coming back, so don’t expect those to change much with this new season.
So who will stay and who will go? You can find out by tuning into the season five premiere of Nashville on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at 9/8c on CMT. If you’d rather stream it online, you can do so via Hulu the day after each episode airs.
