Watch Scotty McCreery’s Stirring Rendition of a George Jones Classic [VIDEO]

During a recent stop at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn., Scotty McCreery performed a jaw-dropping performance of the George Jones‘ classic, “The Grand Tour”.

McCreery’s version of the icon’s 1974 hit stays true to the original, musically, but gets a fresh new sound thanks to his incredible voice. With such a smooth and mature vocal sound, it’s easy to forget McCreery is only 21 years old.

During Season 10 of American Idol, the musician’s surprising vocal chops helped him gain a strong fanbase, which has supported his career ever since winning the popular television competition at the age of 17. McCreery’s original take on classic country songs is what helped him advance to the end of the competition.

He obviously hasn’t forgotten the power of a good cover since. During his own performances, McCreery has covered other country greats, including Garth Brooks, Conway Twitty and Tim McGraw.

The talented young artist plans to release his third studio album in September. Until then, he’ll be on the road with a packed schedule of solo tour dates and appearances as the opening act for Rascal FlattsRiot Tour through November.
