Since her time on The Voice in 2012, RaeLynn has been looking for a signature song. The 22-year old from Baytown, Texas had a few stabs at it. She released three singles and her tune “God Made Girls” peaked at No. 7 in 2014.
Now she’s ready to release a new song called “Love Triangle” that, with any luck, could get her where she wants to be. It’s her first single since signing with Warner Music Nashville.
Don’t let the title throw you off. “Love Triangle” is not your typical love story. In fact, RaeLynn says the song comes from a very personal place: being in the middle of your parents’ divorce.
On the way to a songwriting session, RaeLynn received texts from both parents. She used it for inspiration that day, and it shows.
The tune has a flowing chorus melody with the “shotgun” lyrics that are so popular lately. But it also has depth and personal significance a lot of folks can relate too. Especially with the divorce rate at around 50%.
She first performed the song at the Grand Ole Opry on April 12, which you can watch here.
RaeLynn left her old label Valory Music (part of Big Machine) early in 2016. She just signed with Warner in June and hopes to make a great first impression with the new tune.
The radio could certainly use more tunes like “Love Triangle.” It’s still musically accessible and just poppy enough to fit in with all the summer anthems. And yet, it’s not shallow or trite or dripping in libido.
