Their heartfelt performance of “Go Rest High on That Mountain” during George Jones‘ memorial service in 2013 brought tears to the eyes of everyone inside the Ryman Auditorium that day. From “When I Call Your Name” to “If My Heart Had Windows”, Gill and Loveless have been creating beautiful music together for decades.
Now, the two country talents have teamed up once again to honor another musical legend. Earlier this year, Loretta Lynn was inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame. A TV special was taped, featuring many musical tributes to the 83-year-old. One of the most memorable performances of the night came from Gill and Loveless, who tackled Lynn’s 1971 duet with Conway Twitty, “After the Fire Is Gone”.
As always, it’s obvious the two are having a great time as they run through the lines of the classic track, exchanging smiles and glances throughout the performance. Their years of collaborating with one another have helped create a seamless sound very few artists are able to capture. This will likely be another special duet that will go in the history books as one of the best of both their careers.
