Back before he was making ladies swoon with his infectious songs and killer guitar skills, Keith Urban was just trying to get approval from a couple of TV show judges.
In 1983, Urban appeared on the Australian talent show “New Faces” to perform a cover of soft-rock group Air Supply’s hit song, “All Out of Love”. The judges were underwhelmed by young Urban’s performance, advising him to think about joining a band instead of focusing on solo career. Ouch.
Urban, always the gentleman, took the constructive criticism with a smile. He actually took the judge’s words to heart, later forming the rock-centric band Keith Urban and the Ranch before starting his solo career.
Now, the tables have turned, with Urban supplying advice to music hopefuls on the last few seasons of American Idol.
Although it took a little time to hone his craft, you can still see the charisma and charm that has since won over fans of all ages. Click below to get a glimpse into Keith Urban’s early struggle to make it big in this rare footage.
