Country artist Justin Moore doesn’t seem to get the appeal of rapper Drake’s current hit “Hotline Bling.”
Moore stopped by Phoenix radio station KNIX Country 102.5 this week and tried to show off his rap skills. Unfortunately, Moore just doesn’t seem to have the rhythmic swagger that has made Drake one of the biggest names in music today.
As he reads through the lyrics, Moore’s extreme twang doesn’t quite mesh with the sometimes risqué lyrics. He almost makes it through without laughing, but one scandalous line sends him into a fit of laughter.
“I wonder if you’re rolling up a backwoods for someone else, doing things I taught you, getting nasty for someone else,” he reads dramatically before letting out a chuckle. Moore’s “rendition” of the pop hit has quickly earned nearly five million views since it was posted on Nov. 3.
“How much more money does this guy make than us?” Moore asks in bewilderment before walking out of frame. “Are you kidding me?”
I’m not sure Moore has a leg to stand on with that criticism, as he’s recorded some pretty cringe-worthy tracks in his day (“Big Ass Headache” anyone?). Still, you can’t say his purely country presentation is lacking in southern charm.
