In September, Jason Isbell, the King of Americana, performed at the 2015 Americana Honors and Awards in Nashville. His latest album, Something More Than Free, came out too late to win any awards at this year’s ceremony, but last year he dominated, winning Artist of the Year and Song of the Year (“Cover Me Up”) and Album of the Year (Southeastern).
At this year’s show, Isbell and his wife, singer-songwriter Amanda Shires, took the state to perform “Something More Than Free”. The pair recently welcomed their first baby.
The former Drive-By Trucker’s self-released fifth solo album, Something More Than Free, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums, Folk Albums and Top Country Albums charts. The album has sold more than 100,000 units, and held the No. 1 spot on the Americana Radio Airplay Chart for 20 weeks.
