Dierks Bentley has been releasing a four-part short film series in installments with songs from his latest album, Black. The third part in the series was just released, and it’s the music video for his song “Pick Up.”
Like the other videos, it is filmed completely in black and white and starts right where the previous video left off. The music video series started with the release of “I’ll Be the Moon” and was followed by, “What the Hell Did I Say.”
The series follows a love triangle, with the first video introducing the lovers. In “What the Hell Did I Say,” the secret lovers are found out by the woman’s boyfriend. “Pick Up” deal with the messy chaos following the boyfriend’s discovery.
In the video, the woman wakes to find her phone missing from the bedside. When she walks into the kitchen, her boyfriend is already drinking and was obviously looking through her phone. Confronting her, he calls up her man-on-the-side and starts chasing after. Meanwhile, the other man speeds to her rescue. Make sure you watch until the very end for an unexpected twist!
Bentley dished on the meaning of the song in an interview with Rolling Stone, saying, “When you’re in the throes of a relationship, it can be crazy and lustful, even obsessive and jealous. “Pick Up” drops into the sequence as that point when you just have to be closer to your girl. For the storyline and plot of these videos, Wes [Edwards, director] definitely takes it there and puts a shocking spin on it.”
Black is set for release on May 27.
