“I can’t believe this is happening,” a jubilant Cody Jinks tells a Nashville crowd. “I wish my mom was here.”

Jinks joined Nashville’s iconic outfit the Time Jumpers for a rousing cover of Merle Haggard’s “My Favorite Memory.” The illustrious Vince Gill welcomed him on stage.

Jinks just sold out a stunning three straight shows at venue 3rd and Lindsley in early December. So naturally, he needed an encore a few days later. Jinks joined the Time Jumpers during their usual Monday evening performance slot for the gorgeous cover.

Jinks makes a habit of covering The Hag. He even did it on his most recent album I’m Not The Devil, one of the best country releases this year. Jinks sang “The Way I Am” for that record in an eerily spot-on cover.

Haggard released “My Favorite Memory” in 1981. It became is 25th No. 1. The tune eventually landed nominations for the ACM song of the year.

Cody Jinks’ live performance with Vince Gill and the Time Jumpers rang just as true. Jinks’ smoky smooth baritone adds a noticeable grit to Haggard’s classic style. Plus,a Grammy-nominated band backing you up ain’t bad.

The Time Jumpers snagged two Grammy nominations this week (just a few days after this performance). And the future looks pretty darn bright for Jinks, too. I’m Not The Devil debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard country albums chart in August.
