Stephen Colbert has been keeping it country on the newly revamped Late Show. His first batch of musical guests has included a handful of country artists, including Toby Keith, Willie Nelson, and Chris Stapleton, who stopped by the show yesterday. Stapleton performed “Nobody to Blame”, a gritty country song that feels and sounds like a late ’70s George Jones track. It’s featured on Stapleton’s acclaimed debut album, Traveller, which earned him three big CMA Award nominations: Album of the Year, Best New Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. For a ceremony that usually awards artists with a more pop appeal, it’s refreshing to see an authentic country artist like Stapleton rise to the top.
