Lady Antebellum singer Charles Kelley is currently on his solo Driver tour, and on Wednesday night in Nashville, he had a very special guest show up and perform with him. Kacey Musgraves came on stage to help Kelley sing one of his new songs, “Leaving Nashville.” The song is featured on Kelley’s solo album, The Driver.
Kelley tells American Songwriter of the inspiration behind the song, “… it’s about the struggles as a writer in Nashville – ‘One day you’re the king the next you’re not. You may go a year without having a cut and then the phone starts ringing.”
The fan-recorded video captures the audience cheering as Kacey Musgraves steps out on stage. “Leaving Nashville,” which is already a gorgeous song, was only enhanced in this live version with Musgraves vocals. Their harmonies were perfect and they looked like they were having a blast.
Kelley had two other surprise guests come on stage that night. Eric Paslay and Dierks Bentley came onstage to sing “The Driver” with him. The night before, Cassadee Pope was on hand to sing “I Wish You Were Here” with Kelley. On the album, “I Wish You Were Here” features country megastar Miranda Lambert.
