Ashley Monroe reflects on a tragic personal loss for an intimate performance of “From Time to Time” at Memphis’ historic Sun Studio.
The utterly heartbreaking track is told from the perspective of Monroe’s late father, who passed away when she was only 13 years old. The stripped-down and slightly slowed rendition brings a brand new level of emotion to the track, which is overflowing with both hope and loss.
“Someday, you’ll be fine, sweet as wine, but it’s alright to remember,” Monroe says, finding a sense of peace by channeling the spirit of her beloved father. “I am where you’re at, close your eyes and you’ll see that you’ll remember from time to time.”
It’s a song that anyone who has lost a loved one can easily relate to, thanks to Monroe’s incredible songwriting abilities and her powerful, honest and authentic delivery.
“From Time to Time” is featured on Monroe’s latest studio album, The Blade, which is up for Best Country Album at this year’s Grammy Awards. The release will be up against Chris Stapleton‘s celebrated debut album, Traveller, Little Big Town‘s Pain Killer, Kacey Musgraves‘ Pageant Material and Sam Hunt‘s Montevallo.
