You’ve probably been inside a Wal-Mart that has a Subway or McDonald’s in it, but the superstore is about to add something much sweeter. The mega-chain announced that they will be adding a Texas State Fair-themed restaurant to their stores! Yes, that means you can chow down on delicious, artery-clogging, deep-fried deliciousness while shopping for those rollback prices.
State Fair Treats is the creation of award-winning Texas State Fair foodie, Isaac Rousso. He is known for his unique deep-fried concoctions. This year, he won a Texas Big Tex Choice award for his cookie fries. Other crazy treats of is include the Deep-Fried Pop-Tart, Deep-Fried Cuban Roll and Smoky Bacon Margarita.
The first State Fair Treats opens up in Plano, Texas on Sept. 20 at the Wal-Mart at 425 Coit Road. This is the only location the deep-fried diner is set to open at the moment, but Rousso has hopes of expanding across the country.
Wal-Mart hasn’t been outspoken about further plans for the restaurant. However, they did make a comment that the majority of their stores could accommodate a State Fair Treats.
The retro-styled diner will have 45 menu items, but not word yet on exactly what those will be.
Rousso has expressed gratitude to Wal-Mart for taking a chance on him and remains grateful to his fair background. “The State Fair of Texas for me has been the greatest blessing that’s ever come to my family,” Rousso shared. “And the opportunities that were coming to us because of the State Fair, words can’t describe it.”
