You Can Visit Texas State Parks for Free This Sunday

Texans and tourists interested in spending a (hopefully) beautiful and crisp fall day outdoors take note. Texas State Parks will waive regular admission costs this Sunday (Nov. 12). Camping and activity fees still apply.

The special comes one day after Veteran's Day, and serves as a tribute to former and current members of our Armed Forces.

Texas boasts over 90 state parks, stretching south from the Red River to the Mexican border. Each site offers a range of natural wonders. For instance, Monahans Sandhills State Park features sand dunes that look like something from Luke Skywalker's home planet. If Wild West scenery is more your speed, check out such hiker's destinations as the Palo Duro Canyon. Fall campers have several amazing options, including Garner State Park, the jewel of Texas hill country.

As for the weather, forecasts across the state call for temperatures in the 70s, with a slight chance of rain around some parks. In all likelihood, Sunday proves to be as good a weekend day as any to see fall colors and experience an outdoor escape from the weekday grind.
