Vince Gill, Lyle Lovett Announce ‘Songs and Stories’ Tour Together

For the third year in the row, country heavyweights Vince Gill and Lyle Lovett hit the road together. But don’t blink, cause you might miss one of the nine West Coast shows.

Gill and Lovett recently made a habit out of touring together in what became critically-acclaimed “low production” shows. The pair first did a few shows together in 2015. That outing turned into a 13-city affair in 2016, focusing mostly on the South.

This time, the country crooners hit up seven California cities, along with Las Vegas and Mesa, Az. Gill said fans can expect intimate, no-frills storytelling. Meaning they’re leaving the big bands at home.

And they probably won’t even plan the songs out. “I know Lyle won’t have a plan and I won’t either,” Gill said of last year’s shows. “What he plays will inspire me, and probably vice-versa. It’ll be like playing ping-pong. Whatever song he chooses to sing will inspire the next song that comes out of me.”

This time, expect two friends telling stories on stools. And if you’ve ever been fortunate enough to see either Lyle Lovett or Vince Gill in concert, you know they can spin a yarn. Lovett’s appearance at the Gill-hosted Guy Clark tribute was the highlight of a show that had literally nothing but highlights.

Since Gill and Lovett spent the past 30 years working together off and on, these shows make perfect sense. If you’re out West, make an effort to catch the unmistakably cool songwriters together.
