From the Archives: Vince Gill and Alison Krauss Duet the ‘Lucky One’

When I think of super-talented country vocalists, Vince Gill and Alison Krauss are two of the first names that pop into my mind.

Gill, who turns 59 today (April 12), has an incredible vocal range, and he shines on any track he works on. And Alison Krauss, I mean, c’mon — she has the voice of an angel. Slays me every time I hear it.

The pair has done a number of duets over the years, but one of my favorites is their rendition of “The Lucky One” that they recorded for the 2006 TV special CMT Cross Country.

Written by Robert Lee Castleman and recorded by Krauss for her 2001 album New Favorite, “The Lucky One” has a melody that begs for great harmony partners. For this version, Gill lends the higher end of his register to the harmony, and it blends really well with Krauss’s gorgeous voice.

It’s always a treat to hear these to sing and play together.
