After 25 years in the music industry, Trisha Yearwood has managed to accomplish yet another important career milestone.
According to ABC News, the 51-year-old’s new track “Broken” debuted at number 48 on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs ranking, which marks the first time she’s appeared on the Christian charts. The single is a cover of alt-rock band Lifehouse’s 2008 hit, which she recorded for the soundtrack of Fox’s upcoming live musical, The Passion.
The two-hour musical event will be hosted and narrated by filmmaker and actor Tyler Perry, and will be set in notable locales across downtown New Orleans. The project will retell the last hours of Jesus Christ’s life through songs performed by Yearwood and singer-songwriter Prince Royce, who will play the apostle Peter.
“As Mary follows her son into Jerusalem, she already has witnessed Jesus struggle with opposition from other religious leaders, but bolsters him with the boundless depth of a mother’s love,” reads a description of Yearwood’s role from Fox.
The Passion is set to air live on Fox at 8PM ET on March 20. In the coming months, Yearwood will continue to travel with husband Garth Brooks for his world tour, which will visit Louisville, Ky. on April 8 and 9.
