According to reports, Trace Adkins cut short a charity performance after showing up drunk. The “(This Ain’t) No Thinkin’ Thing” singer has struggled with alcoholism in the past.
Attendees at a New Jersey benefit for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital said Adkins was slouched on a stool and slurring the whole set. He mumbled his way through three songs before leaving. Several fans headed to the door even before he did. Naturally, social media was not kind to the singer.
To make matters worse, the crowd consisted of a lot of kids.
It’s a sad sight knowing Adkins’ struggles in the past. In 2014, he attended rehab after getting into a fight with a Trace Adkins look-alike on a cruise ship. Adkins reportedly donated his entire performance fee to the hospital after the fiasco. Which is the least he can do, really.
Adkins just released an ill-advised song called “Lit.” Now would be a good time to pull that tune from promotion. With his history, it’s particularly sad to think Adkins even recorded it.
Sources close to the singer say everyone in his camp is aware of the problem and pulling for him. That source told People, “This illness is an everyday fight. Trace is a fighter and everyone is pulling for him.”
We hope they help Adkins get the help he truly needs.
