Senator McCain learned about the cancer last week. Doctors were performing surgery to remove a blood clot from above his eye when they found the tumor. His office released a statement on July 19, disclosing the news. "The Senator's doctors say he is recovering from his surgery 'amazingly well' and his underlying health is excellent," the statement reads.

After an outpouring of support from fans, McCain took to Twitter to say thanks. In typical McCain fashion, he also promised to be back at work soon.
