Tim McGraw Speaks Out on Dick’s, Walmart’s New Gun Sales Policies

Tim McGraw has voiced his opinion on two major retailers’ decisions to change their gun sales policies.

Last week, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Walmart Kroger’s Fred Meyer stores raised the minimum age for gun buyers from 18 to 21. Dick’s also opted to stop sales of “assault-style rifles” and high capacity magazines. The move came days after 17 students and faculty members were killed in a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

McGraw took to Twitter to acknowledge the retailer’s decision and add his comments on the issue.

His statement comes just months after McGraw voiced support for new gun legislation following the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting.

“Look, I’m a bird hunter — I love to wing-shoot,” McGraw told Billboard. “However, there is some common sense that’s necessary when it comes to gun control. They want to make it about the Second Amendment every time it’s brought up. It’s not about the Second Amendment.”

McGraw’s wife, Faith Hill, also commented on the issue last November.

“It’s everyone’s responsibility, including the government and the National Rifle Association, to tell the truth,” she said. “We all want a safe country.”

McGraw is one of the few country stars who have spoken publicly in recent months on the issue of gun control.
