Tim McGraw has given a very special gift to a fan battling an aggressive form of cancer.
Benn Banks has been diagnosed with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, a type of cancer that requires aggressive and expensive medical treatments. When Banks caught McGraw’s recent ACM Awards performance of his single “Humble and Kind,” he was driven to share a message of thanks on the country star’s Facebook page.
“That song was the mental break that I needed,” Banks shared. “It brought me back to another time and another place. It brought me back to his concert with my wife a couple days before surgery, and a couple days before my life changed forever.”
McGraw spotted his post and shared it, along with a link to Banks’ GoFundMe campaign started to help fund his medical bills, and requested his address in a private message. A short time later, a package that included sent him a personal note from McGraw, a book and two scarves arrived on his doorstep.
“I am sure that he has people that could have sent me a tour hat or a signed picture or something generic,” Banks explained. “However, he took the time to figure out that I wear a scarf every day to cover up my laryngectomy and he made what he sent personal to me along with a card where he spelled my name right which NEVER happens.”
This small but powerful gift made a huge impact on Banks, who thanked the star for the gesture through a heartfelt post on his personal Facebook page.
“What Tim did for a complete stranger is so far above and beyond kind that people need to know about it,” he writes, adding that he shares his own struggles with his disease to help inspire strength in others. “So today be kind my friends. Pay kindness forward. Thirty seconds of kindness can change someone else’s life forever.”
