Thomas Rhett rarely goes anywhere without his beautiful wife Lauren Akins at his side. He’s an open book about their deep love, and he sings about it on 2015’s “Die a Happy Man.” Recently, the Nashville artist took to social media to ask for prayers for his wife as she prepared to embark on a life-changing journey to Haiti.
“If you think about it today please pray for Lauren Akins and the others on her team headed down to Haiti,” Rhett wrote, along with a photo of his wife on his Instagram.
A humanitarian at heart, Lauren works as a nurse and she recently traveled to the Caribbean country with the organization 147 Million Orphans. According to the organization’s website, they “provide food, water, medicine and shelter” to specified countries “in the name of Jesus Christ.”
Akins has been sharing snapshots from her four-day journey and sharing them with fans and friends through her Instagram.
A nurse who was working alongside Akins also shared a touching moment from the trip when their team handed out new clothes, shoes and backpacks full of school supplies to children in need.
It’s obvious that the trip made a huge impact on Akins, who has been posting a stream of photos from her trip over the past few days. Since her return to the States last week, Akins has been posting stream of adorable photos from the trip.
Although her husband may get most of the public spotlight, Lauren’s heartfelt efforts should be applauded and used as a reminder that we are all capable of making a big impact on the lives of those less-fortunate than ourselves.
