The 49th Annual CMA Awards will travel into the world of pop-rock when Fall Out Boy takes the stage for a duet performance with Thomas Rhett.
News of the surprising collaboration dropped just a few days after the announcement that Eric Church will kick off the ceremony alongside Hank Williams Jr. Although many country fans might raise their eyebrows at the initial idea of showcasing a group like Fall Out Boy during the CMAs, the collaboration goes in line with Rhett’s recent career trajectory.
His latest album, Tangled Up, is far more experimental than any of his previous works, and is highly influenced by current pop chart-toppers like Bruno Mars. Taking such a big risk musically in this performance could either go incredibly well or terribly, for Rhett.
In reality, most of these “exciting collaborations” between cross-genre artists during award shows never really seem to mesh, but there’s potential for an extremely energetic and fun moment between Rhett and Fall Out Boy. I guess we’ll all just have to tune in and see for ourselves in November.
