The team over at PureWow have come up with a truly ingenious way of getting your skillet into tip top shape. The first step is cleaning, which is a lot more simple than you may think. First, preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. and then cover the surface of the skillet with a fine layer of salt. Then, cut a potato in half and grip it tightly with your palm. With the flat side of the potato pressed against the skillet, scrub in a circular motion until the surface is clean. Once that’s done, simply rinse the surface with water and pat dry with a clean towel.
To keep the pan seasoned, all you need to do is pour a little bit of oil onto the surface. Make sure it’s spread out into a thin layer by using a piece of paper towel to distribute it evenly. Then, slide it into your preheated oven and let it warm up for one hour. Then, remove it from the oven, let cool and wipe off the coating of oil.
