One organization is using horses to help bring relief to former soldiers plagued with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Saratoga WarHorse brings veterans who are struggling with fear, depression, and other mental issues that develop after leaving the battlefield. Most veterans reject the idea of discussing or facing their issues publicly. When participants begin their three-day experience with the horses, all of that hesitation falls away.
“Whatever emotions I had, whatever I was feeling, at that time inside the ring, I was able to leave it there. I passed through the gate and I felt that I didn’t have to carry it anymore,” one veteran said to CBS6 Albany.
Saratoga WarHorse uses retired racehorses to create a healing bond between equine and veteran. The silent understanding that is created can be life changing for those who feel like they are struggling to be understood.
Bob Nevins, founder of Saratoga WarHorse, says helping these vets connect with the horses and themselves is incredibly rewarding. “The transformation takes place, and you realize you may have just saved someone’s life.”
You can see that incredible transformation in the video below.
