A North Texas woman gave birth to her own granddaughter on Wednesday morning.
54-year-old Tracey Thompson offered to be the surrogate for her daughter Kelley McKissack’s pregnancy.
Kelley, 28, and her husband Aaron, 30, have been struggling with infertility issues, including three miscarriages. The couple tried various infertility treatments, but were unsuccessful. All that changed when Tracey stepped up to be their surrogate.
According to the hospital, Tracey was already seven years past menopause, but doctors were able to use special treatments to prepare her for child bearing. Tracey used one of the couple’s last remaining embryos.
The newborn is a healthy 6-pound, 11-ounce baby girl. Her name is Kelcey, a combination of her mother and grandmother’s name.
“It is such a blessing that I can do this for my daughter,” said Tracey.
