A Texas Day Care is Going Viral for Asking Parents to Put Down Their Phones

A Texas day care is trying to put a stop to parents who are more fixated on their phones than their kids during pick up.

The childcare center posted a sign this month urging parents to put their phones away. A parent at the daycare, Juliana Farris Mazurkewicz, took a photo of the sign and posted it on Facebook. Now it's going viral.

"You are picking up your child," the sign says. "GET OFF YOUR PHONE! Your child is happy to see you! Are you happy to see your child?? We have seen children trying to hand their parents their work they completed and the parent is on the phone."

"We have heard a child say, 'Mommy, mommy, mommy...' and the parent is paying more attention to their phone than their own child," she continues. "It is appalling. Get off your phone!!"

Since Mazurkewicz shared the Texas day care's sign, it has garnered over a million shares, 75,000 reactions and 7,000 comments. A majority of the messaged shared on the photo are from people supporting the sign.

"You will never get back those moments with your baby or child," Diane McAbee Wilson wrote. "I hate those darn cell phones. They have taken over like a dreaded disease."

There are others who don't agree with the sign — and they have their own valid reasons. Kelly Lynne commented, "Not all phone calls are unimportant. I've picked up my son a handful of times while on the phone with the insurance company regarding his health after being on hold for what seems like forever. I still manage to smile and hug him with warmth when he sees me ... Sometimes the other end of that phone call can't be made at a different time."
