Tedeschi Trucks Band Deliver Soulful Cover of George Jones' 'Color of Blues'

If you need any proof that truly great American rock-and-roll bands still exist, you're not paying attention to the Tedeschi Trucks Band.

Led by guitar wizard Derek Trucks and his wife and blues master Susan Tedeschi, the 12-peice band is an absolute tour de force on the stage. Their recently released Live From the Fox Oakland perfectly captures their powerful live show, a product they've been honing since 2010.

For each tour, the group picks a few classics from the American songbook to cover. George Jones' "Color of Blue" is one of their most recent additions. Tedeschi recorded the song with John Prine for his 2016 duets album, For Better, Or Worse. The Tedeschi Trucks Band now plays a stripped-down version of the song during their shows.

In this video from the accompanying Live From the Fox Oakland DVD, Tedeschi Trucks Band vocalists Mike Mattison and Alecia Chakour join Susan for a soulful spin on the George Jones' classic.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. Standout covers from the group's new live album include a gospel-inspired version of Leonard Cohen's "Bird on a Wire," Taj Mahal's "Leavin' Trunk,"Derek and the Dominoes' "Keep On Growing" and the blues standard "I Pity the Fool."
