Taylor Swift’s mother, who was recently diagnosed with cancer, gave an emotional speech during Sunday’s ACM Awards.
One of the most emotional and poignant moments of this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards was Andrea Swift’s touching speech in honor of her daughter, Taylor.
During her introduction, her mother reflected on the days before Taylor Swift‘s rapid rise to stardom, and how the singer has stayed true to herself during her career.
“Her favorite thing in the world to do is to write a song, tell a story, play guitar or piano,” Andrea Swift said during her speech, “And I’ve seen those things carry her through every emotion, every experience in her life, good or bad.”
Taylor Swift revealed on her Tumblr page earlier this month that her mother had been diagnosed with cancer following a health screening. During the emotional speech, the impact that her daughter’s success had made on her was clear.
“I am a very proud mom,” she told the audience. “I want to thank the entire music community for taking such good care of her. And to the fans: I know you love her as I love her. And for that, I thank you eternally.”
After receiving the ACM Milestone award and a hug from her mother, Taylor Swift went on to thank country music and her dedicated fan base for their unwavering support.
“You truly see who a person is when you give them news they weren’t expecting,” Swift said to her fans. “When I told you I wanted to make a pop album and explore other genres, you showed me who you are with the grace you accepted that with.”
