Sturgill Simpson takes in the enormity and impact of Austin City Limits on his life as an artist in a new clip from A Song for You: The Austin City Limits Story.
Last year, Simpson was preparing to make his first appearance on the long-running music program when he sat down to be interviewed by filmmaker Keith Maitland. It’s obvious that the enormity of the moment was just starting to set in as he geared up to perform.
“You think about all the people that have stood on that stage and you’ll probably have a nervous breakdown,” he says with a slight sense of bewilderment.
The snippet will be featured in Maitland’s new documentary A Song for You: The Austin City Limits Story. Along with his chat with Simpson, the film features interviews with an array of artists, including Willie Nelson and Dale Watson.
Maitland is currently raising money to finish and distribute the film through a Kickstarter campaign. He hopes to raise $125,000 by the end of May, and supporters have already raised over $42,o00 toward the goal. Those who donate will be rewarded with a range of gifts dependent on their monetary amount, including a ticket to a private screening, a piece of the studio’s famous graffiti wall or a custom guitar.
