I Love Lucy fans will get to enjoy a very special gift this holiday season.
The new I Love Lucy Christmas Special will air on CBS on December 23, and features two newly colorized episodes of the popular series.
For the first time ever, the network will air “The Christmas Episode” and “Lucy Does a TV Commercial” in vibrant color without interruption. The “vintage” inspired method of colorization was used as a “nod to the 1950s period in which the shows were filmed,” according to a press release.
“The Christmas Episode,” which features flashbacks to Desi and Lucy’s early days as a couple, went unaired for decades until CBS rebroadcast it in 1989. It is now known as one of the most popular episodes of the entire series. You can see a special sneak preview of the episode here.
The special will also feature the episode “Lucy Does a TV Commercial,” where Lucy tries unsuccessfully to describe the 23 percent alcohol tonic Vitameatavegamin for the cameras. The hilarious episode helped cement Lucille Ball and I Love Lucy as permanent pop culture icons.
This will be the third straight year that the network features classic restored episodes of the history-making sitcom.
You can tune into the I Love Lucy Christmas Special on Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 8/7 CT on CBS.
