See Merle Haggard Revive His Energetic Hit ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Lucky Star’

Merle Haggard gives new life to his last No. 1 hit during his special performance for Guitar Center Sessions.

Haggard’s track “Twinkle, Twinkle Lucky Star” hit the top of the charts back in 1987. The song was featured on his Chill Factor, which earned a strong placement on the country charts during a time when relative newcomers like Randy Travis and Dwight Yoakum were edging out other more established artists.

The hit track features a more evolved, electric guitar-driven sound that takes influences from the early pioneers of rock and roll. Still, Haggard’s distinctive voice shines through as the centerpiece during the performance, which shows to the masses that the beloved Bakersfield hit-maker still has plenty of swagger.

Haggard’s episode of Guitar Center Sessions is set to air Friday, December 18th at 9:00 p.m. ET on Audience Network.
