Music fans across the world were saddened by the news of Eagles‘ guitarist Glenn Frey‘s passing on Jan. 18. One of the most memorable tributes came from Keith Urban, who shared a jaw-dropping cover of the band’s hit track, “Take it Easy.”
In a video posted to his Facebook page, Urban is shown sitting at a piano as he rolls through sentimental version of the band’s 1972 single.
“So deeply saddened tonight to hear of Glenn Frey’s passing,” Urban wrote in the video’s caption. “Way too young … Blessings to all of his family and the Eagles!”
Frey died of complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia on Monday. He was 67 years old.
According to WSOC, Frey had been dealing with severe intestinal issues for months. In November, the Eagles postponed a series of tour dates to allow Frey time to recover from “major surgery.” This band also decided to postpone being recognized at the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors ceremony. The band explained that they would rather celebrate a year later with the entire band in attendance than without Frey.
In recent years, Frey explained he believed that his health issues were a result of abusing drugs and alcohol during the early days of the band. So far, the Eagles have not issued a statement on the future of the band.
