Kacey Musgraves put her own spin on a tongue-twisting country classic during her recent performance at the Grand Ole Opry.
Musgraves made a stop at the legendary venue for Grand Ole Opry’s annual “Opry Goes Pink” event. Appropriately clad in a sparkly pink costume created for her Country & Western Rhinestone Revue tour, Musgraves’ vocals paired with dreamy pedal steel bring a relaxed feel to the first verse of the song.
As soon as she hits the chorus, a burst of energy brings the song to new heights as she glides through the tongue-twisting lyrics with impressive ease. It’s hard to put a brand new twist on a song that has been covered by everyone from Johnny Cash to Lynn Anderson over the years, but Musgraves pulls it off effortlessly.
Musgraves and her band really have been everywhere in 2015. After taking a much-deserved break, they’ll continue traveling through the U.S. with their Country & Western Rhinestone Revue on Feb. 19 in Boston. She is also set to act as support for George Strait’s residency at the Las Vegas Arena, which kicks off in September.
