Granger Smith soaks up some country scenery in his new video for “Backroad Song.”
Directed by Chris Hicky, the clip shows Smith cruising through the hills of Watertown, Tenn. in his truck, as well as live performance footage.
“I love the mix of old technology from a barn and new technology with a video wall. The song is a lyrical story; I didn’t want to tell that story straight on,” Hicky explains in a behind-the-scenes video from the shoot. “I wanted to tell it in an abstract kind of way, and highlight the musicality of the song and the performance, because I think artists first and foremost are performers.”
“Backroad Song” will be featured on Smith’s upcoming full-length debut album, Remington. Set for release on March 4 through Wheelhouse Records, the 11-track record gives fans insight to eventful journey that led him to today.
“I’ve always thought of my albums as diaries of my life: Some songs are easy and lighthearted, while others are painful and personal,” Smith said in a press release. “During this time, we welcomed the birth of my little boy, and we lost my dad. My life was such a roller coaster during my time writing and recording Remington, and you can hear that journey in these songs.”
