Over the weekend, Garth Brooks took the stage in Baltimore, MD with a very special mission in mind.
On Jan. 31, the country superstar pulled out his phone during his performance at the Royal Farms Arena and recorded a birthday message to his friend Justin Timberlake.
“I hate this guy because he always looks like he’s 18,” Brooks joked to the crowd. “I hate this guy ‘cause he’s got more talent in his pinky than my whole body. I hate this guy because my wife’s in love with him,” he continued. “But I love this kid. He’s a kid named Justin Timberlake.”
The crowd screamed with excitement at the mention of Timberlake, and were more than happy to join Brooks in a rendition of “Happy Birthday” for the pop superstar. It’s not every day that you get a special singalong recorded just for you by one of country’s biggest stars and thousands of screaming fans. The enormity of the gift wasn’t lost on Timberlake, who took to his Twitter account to share his thanks for the mind-blowing offering.
Country fans will likely see a lot more of Timberlake over the next year. After his incredible duet performance with Chris Stapleton at the 2015 CMA Awards, rumors spread that the Memphis-native was prepping a country record in Nashville. Longtime friend and producer Timbaland confirmed plans for the pair to record a new, country-oriented album a few weeks later, but few other details are known about the project.
