Garcia’s Mexican Food, a popular Tex-Mex eatery in San Antonio, was recently named one of the Best Restaurants in America by Eater.
The restaurant joins the ranks of 37 other restaurants across the U.S., including hoity-toity establishments and casual favorites like Franklin Barbecue in Austin, Texas.
Like barbecue, choosing the best Tex-Mex is tough, but Eater says San Antonio has the best.
“Singling out one Tex-Mex restaurant above all others in the Lone Star State? Any answer I could give would be fighting words,” writes Eater food critic Bill Addison. “But let’s squabble at Garcia’s, while we scarf down a Deluxe Mexican Dinner plate.”
Favorite dishes at Garcia’s include the aforementioned Deluxe Mexican Dinner and the pork chop and brisket tacos.
San Antonio has become the center of a burgeoning food scene in recent years. The city has several excellent hole-in-the-wall joints like Garcia’s and a wealth of new restaurants offering inventive and delicious cuisine.
