So-Cal country singer Sam Outlaw earned critical acclaim for his spirited debut album, Angeleno, released earlier this year. His incredibly well-crafted record puts a fresh new twist on the classic Bakersfield sound, which was made famous by country legends Buck Owens and Merle Haggard in the 1950s. His poppy, mariachi-infused ballad, “Who Do You Think You Are?” holds the attitude and honesty found in many classic George Jones tunes.
When we asked Outlaw to name one of his favorite classic country tracks, it came as no surprise that he chose one of Possum’s most popular early hits.
“‘She Thinks I Still Care,’ performed by George Jones, is one of my all-time favorites,” Outlaw told Wide Open Country.
“I remember the first time I heard that song it struck me that country music can have a sense of humor and irony and at the same time be truly sad. Jones’ performance is heartfelt so the sadness comes across as authentically as the melodrama. A true country music gem that only gets better with age.”

Outlaw is currently on tour, supporting his new album, Angeleno, which is featured on “Wide Open Country’s Favorite Albums of 2015 So Far”.
