We have your heartwarming story of the week. A rescued calf and blind cow are now companions after the cow lost her best friend, Lulu the pig.
The calf was brought to Don’t Forget Us Pet Us, an animal sanctuary in Dartmouth, Mass. after escaping from a farm. The calf spent weeks on the run, and the other cows she escaped with where killed when hit by cars.
When the calf was finally caught and returned to the farm (where it was to be sent to a slaughterhouse), it was saved by a woman named Jean Briggs. Briggs had heard about the calf and decided to use her tax return to purchase the calf from the farm and save it from its fate.
Briggs handed the calf over to Don’t Forget Us Pet Us at the perfect time. A resident blind cow there, named Baby, had just lost her long time pig companion. When Lulu passed away, Baby mooed all throughout the night, grieving the loss of her friend.
The calf and Baby were introduced to each just a few days later and are doing very well together!
Don’t Forget Us Pet us talks of this fateful timing on their Facebook page, saying, “We had no idea Lulu would no longer be with us, but with her passing Sunday this little calf could not get here quick enough! I prayed we could acclimate this little one to our blind Baby cow and that she would be her new seeing eye companion.”
It looks like these two are already on their way to becoming fast friends.
