The fresh track is all about the challenges of life on the farm and holding on to the idea that a little good luck will help get you through the hard times. “Ladybug, ladybug, give me some good luck,” they plead, “Four leaf clover, come on over.”
Though the lyrics, as a whole, have a hint of hopelessness, it makes the small bit of hope the narrator is holding on to that much more poignant. It’s a true country story-song, unapologetic in its truthfulness but never whiny.
“Ladybug” is also one of the few modern country songs highlighting the difficulties that life as a farmer can bring. This kind of honest songwriting is weaved through every track on Hold My Beer Vol. 1, making it a true standout among 2015’s releases.
Rogers and Bowen are currently out on their national Hold My Beer and Watch This Tour, which runs through mid-September. You can find a full list of tour dates at their official website.
