‘Ranch Girl’ Honors Late Friend with Hilarious High School Spirit Week Outfit

Carson Haase

A South Dakota high school student has gone viral after wearing a witty and hilarious costume to school during homecoming week. On the first day of Brandon Valley High’s spirit week, the theme was “Salad Dressing Day,” specifically “ranch.” Every student came dressed in cowboy attire, with boots, flannels and hats… except for Carson Haase. Haase took the literal approach and came dressed in a homemade bottle of ranch.

With the help of family and friends, Haase constructed a full-body Hidden Valley Ranch outfit from cardboard.

The people who knew her weren’t all that surprised. “She’s hilarious, and it’s finally getting noticed,” Peyton Roesch, a friend of Haase’s, tells Argus Leader. “It was literally overnight, and I think that’s the coolest thing ever. I’m lucky to be friends with the Ranch Girl.”

Haase originally had hesitations and nerves about wearing it to school. Ultimately, she decided to, thanks in part to her late friend Brittany Corcoran. Corcoran was a member of Haase’s hockey team and committed suicide earlier this year.

“She taught me a lot of things,” Haase tells Argus of Corcoran. “How to be strong in bad situations [and] that it honestly doesn’t matter what people thought because there will always be people that like you anyway… This was a tribute to (Corcoran) not directly—even though she did love ranch.”

Photos of “Ranch Girl” (as she’s now called) spread across the internet like wildfire. Hidden Valley even took notice, sending her a package that included bottles of ranch. They also donated $500 in her name to a scholarship fund set up in Corcoran’s memory.
