Paul Nipper on the Chance Encounter That Got Him Started in Texas Country

Alabaman turned Texan Paul Nipper is one of the up-and-coming country artists in the Austin music scene. Earlier this year, we named him one of our Artists to Watch. Fans who appreciate road-weathered songwriters of the 70s, like Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, will find something both familiar and fresh in his music.

Several years ago, Nipper made the leap to Austin from Alabama after working as at a moving company. As is with many great music stories, a random encounter led Nipper to an entry point in the scene. Today, he has two albums and an EP under his belt, thousands of miles notched, and a steady following.

Fellow Austinite Mike Harmeier, of Mike and the Moonpies, co-produced Nipper's new record, Kamakazee Heart. Harmeier, who has also been a guest on this show, has been guiding Nipper in the ways of honky-tonk perfection.

On today's show, Nipper joins us in the studio along with his drummer Kristopher Schoen and guitarist Dean Lowrance. Below you can watch them perform a couple new songs. Check out his list of upcoming tour dates.
