Pam Tillis Asks for Prayers for Dad Mel Tillis

Mel Tillis‘ family is asking fans for support as he fights to recover from recent colon surgery.

The country legend had the procedure at a Nashville hospital on Jan. 8. As the news broke, rumors begin swirling that the 83-year-old was in critical condition and fighting for his life. After many of Tillis’ friends and colleagues shared kind messages and prayers through their social media pages, his daughter shared a small updated on his condition.

“Dad is doing fine,” Pam Tillis wrote. “He’s recovering and will make it just fine. Thanks for all the prayers and the love.”

On Jan. 28, Tillis posted another message to fans which indicated her father’s health had taken a turn for the worse.

“Dad is not healing as quickly as we would like,” Tillis shared through a post on her Facebook page, along with a family photo. “We ask for your continued prayers and we’ll update everyone soon… he’s a trooper.”

According to a publicist’s statement given to Country Rebel, Mel Tillis has not left the hospital since his initial surgery. So far, the Tillis family has released no other official statements about Mel’s current condition.

Mel Tillis first found fame as a country music songwriter in the 1950s, and penned hit songs for artists including Charley Pride, Kenny RogersWaylon Jennings and dozens of others. In the 1970s, he topped the charts as a solo artist with the hit tracks, “Good Woman Blues”, “I Believe In You” and  “Coca-Cola Cowboy.” In the early 1990s, he opened The Mel Tillis Theater, which quickly became one of the biggest attractions in Branson, Missouri. In 2007, he was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry by his daughter, Pam.
