One Tennessee Town Came to the Rescue of a 5-Year-Old’s Birthday Disaster

When none of 5-year-old Taliyah Sassmannshausen’s friends showed up to her birthday party on Aug. 16, the community of Spring Hill, Tenn. took matters into its own hands.

Taliyah was celebrating her 5th birthday in style with an inflatable water slide and, of course, cake. She had received over 30 positive RSVPs from friends, but as the time wore on, not a single one showed.

When Taliyah began to wonder where her friends were an hour into the party, her mother, Lauren Sassmannshausen, couldn’t bear it any longer. She reached out to the local community via a town Facebook page, I Heart Spring Hill.

“Does anyone have any kids that want to come over and celebrate my daughter’s birthday with us? Not one person has shown up except a few adults and she keeps asking me where her friends are. It is seriously breaking my heart, we have PLENTY of food and drinks. We don’t care about presents, she just wants friends.”

Spring Hill responded immediately. Within ten minutes, the guests were pouring in to the party. Over 75 adults and children ended up celebrating Taliyah’s birthday with her.

After the party, Lauren shared how much she appreciated the town’s response: “NEVER in my life would I have thought we would have so many people care about a child they didn’t know. I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart and I want to express my gratitude to you all for coming out and making my baby girl’s birthday so very special.”

Taliyah got the birthday she deserved and Spring Hill has truly provided an inspiring model for other communities.

I Never in my life thought a community would pull together like they did today. I had several people RSVP and only a few came. Tallie was asking about every 10 minutes where her friends were, and my response was “they are coming, baby”. time passed and none of her friends showed. So I asked the Springhill community if any of their kids wanted to come and celebrate with us!. NEVER in my life would I have though we would have so many people care about a child they didn’t know. I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart and I want to express my gratitude to you all for coming out and making my baby girls birthday so very special. SO THANK YOU!!! GOD IS GREAT
