Country Fan Living in California? Check Out ‘Country Summer’ 2016

Country music festivals may be dropping like flies, but Californians certainly aren’t feeling the squeeze. Just look at Country Summer — “Northern California’s biggest country music festival and Sonoma County’s biggest party” — for proof of that.

The three-day festival is in its third year and it’s humming right along. Taking place in Santa Rosa June 3-5, Country Summer features headliners Lady Antebellum (a rare sight since going on hiatus), Billy Currington and The Band Perry, back by popular demand and the first repeat headliner in the festival’s history.

It’s refreshing to see a country music festival in Northern California do so well, partly because it means country music is still expanding its popularity and partly because it means there’s demand for more than one big festival in the state. Stagecoach, which takes place in Southern California, has been the go-to West Coast country music festival for awhile.

But hey, the state that brought us the “Bakersfield Sound,” Merle Haggard and Eagles deserves more than one big country music festival.

Country Summer isn’t quite as big as Stagecoach, and may not have plans to be, but it offers its own California charm. There will be Western-themed attractions and plenty of food and drink — including wine, because it is Northern California after all.

Other acts on the festival’s main stage include Josh Turner, Craig Morgan and Kristian Bush, among many others. The smaller “Santa Rosa Stage” will feature tons of local and regional talent. The festival is even giving one lucky band a chance to open up the show on the main stage through it’s “Fender Contender Competition.”
