When Brian Kurtulik and his fiancé Lauren found out that Kurtulik’s grandmother had been admitted into the hospital on their wedding day, they knew they had to do something.
91-year-old Peg McCormack was hospitalized after taking a fall. On the morning of her grandson’s wedding, doctors told her she would not be able to attend the wedding.
“She was so excited to watch us get married,” Lauren Kurtulik told the Huffington Post. “She was literally living for this wedding. So we brought the wedding to her.”
After the ceremony, the couple brought along their wedding photographer, Rachel Nolan of Hello Gorgeous Photography, along with them to McCormack’s bedside. Her face lit up with a huge smile when the couple entered her hospital room.
“It meant the world to bring the wedding to her,” the groom explained. “It was such a small portion of the day to trade in for such a special moment.”
At the time, the couple didn’t know just how important this moment would be for them. McCormack passed away just a month after the wedding.
“Without even knowing it, [visiting her] was the best decision we made that day,” Lauren Kurtulik shared on Instagram. “Thank god we did this and got to capture this special moment. THIS is what life is all about. We get so lost in the perfect moments and perfect situations, sometimes we forget what’s happening right now.”
