Taylor Swift's 'New Year's Day' is Coming to Country Radio

Taylor Swift isn't done with country music just yet. According to Taste of Country, the pop star is releasing her song "New Year's Day" to country radio in the coming weeks.

The track is off her brand new album Reputation, which is a distinctly pop album with heavy R&B influences. Although "New Year's Day" stands out as one of the only stripped down ballads on the record, it certainly doesn't have any distinctly country elements, either.

So why bring it country radio? Although Swift distanced herself as much as possible with her record-breaking release 1989, she still has kept close professional and personal ties with Nashville. Earlier this month, she won a CMA Award for penning Little Big Town's hit song "Better Man." If you compare the sound of that track to "New Year's Day," it's easy to find some parallels.

Still, country radio and its listeners may not be as eager to welcome Swift back onto the airwaves and country charts. She's gone through a lot of changes, both musically and personally, since her "Tim McGraw" days. Only time will tell if "New Year's Day" will signal the beginning of a successful return to the country realm.

Taylor Swift's "New Year's Day" Lyrics:

There's glitter on the floor after the party
Girls carrying their shoes down in the lobby
Candle wax and Polaroids on the hardwood floor
You and me from the night before, but

Don't read the last page
But I stay when you're lost, and I'm scared
And you're turning away
I want your midnights
But I'll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year's Day

You squeeze my hand three times in the back of the taxi
I can tell that it's gonna be a long road
I'll be there if you're the toast of the town, babe
Or if you strike out and you're crawling home

Don't read the last page
But I stay when it's hard, or it's wrong
Or we're making mistakes
I want your midnights
But I'll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year's Day

Hold on to the memories, they will hold on to you (x3)
And I will hold on to you

Please don't ever become a stranger
Whose laugh I could recognize anywhere
Please don't ever become a stranger
Whose laugh I could recognize anywhere

There's glitter on the floor after the party
Girls carrying their shoes down in the lobby
Candle wax and Polaroids on the hardwood floor
You and me forevermore

Don't read the last page
But I stay when it's hard, or it's wrong
Or we're making mistakes
I want your midnights
But I'll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year's Day

Hold on to the memories, they will hold on to you (x3)
And I will hold on to you

Please don't ever become a stranger
Whose laugh I could recognize anywhere
Please don't ever become a stranger
Whose laugh I could recognize anywhere
