NatGeo Names San Antonio as Top Winter Getaway

This time of year, nothing is better than heading to a beautiful winter wonderland. Thankfully for Texans, one of the best winter escapes is San Antonio. National Geographic recently named the city one of the best places in the country to visit during the Christmas season.

Start by visiting the San Antonio River Walk, which the city transforms into a twinkling land of wonder. You can also enjoy a serene riverboat ride where you can see the lights in all their beauty as they softly reflect off the water. Carolers are also out and about, as are Latino ensembles, bell choirs, and folk groups, throughout the month of December.

Of course, there are lots of other places to get into the holiday spirit around the city as well. Sea World, for example, also has a beautiful light display that claims to be the largest in Texas. You can also enjoy a few Christmas shows and other events around the park.

Throughout the city, you will also find a number of great holiday shopping for everyone on your Christmas list this year. After you finish, stop by any of the cozy cafes around town to warm up and grab some great food.

NatGeo definitely got it right when it included San Antonio on its list of top winter destinations. Some of the other areas on the list include Alaska’s winter wonderland, the coast of Oregon, Washington, D.C. and Park City, Utah.
